Wood Workings

Sounds odd, but out of everything the sound of all the machinery was the thing that most interested me...
My recordings of the sounds could be heard on the youtube video: ''journey of a graphics student''
The sounds are the inspiration for the video.
We were given the word blunder meaning ''stupid or careless mistakes''.
Unfortunately for our group, communication failed, so I decided to come up with the idea , solo.
I wanted to represent the definition visually on the word after it's been cut out in wood. So I came up with the idea of having different font sizes to show obvious stupid mistake of having incorrect font sizes for the word.
On the day few members showed up and we decided to go ahead with the idea and started to cut and file:

I haven't worked with wood for a while and as you can tell, me handling it showed exactly that:
Yeah.. I snapped the first one I cut and filed...
But then , It gave me an idea! - since the word is about stupid mistake and I just made one, let's keep it! - It was a strong visual representative of the meaning.
The work is not finished yet as we still have to come up with an idea where we display the word- and it's not going to be easy as I am pretty much going solo with this one. - But give me time, i'll get there eventually.
I did work with different arrangements- worked with shadows and layout- layering the letters on top of each other but it's still not visually interesting and doesn't say much.
Since the word 'blunder' reminds me of blenders, I was thinking of displaying it inside a blender --
but I'm going to need a pretty big blender for that arrangement.
Next thing I will need to do is paint the letters with acrylic to make them all white. We didn't have time to paint them as well as the fact we decided that leaving it as it is - shows the 'stupid mistake' part, but as there are too many elements showing stupid mistakes - it looses the focus and meaning - so I will be working on the arrangement to make sure only one stupid mistake is being clearly shown.
The workshop was a quick session and I would've enjoyed it if I didn't stress over the fact we might not be able to get everything finished as some members weren't here. But at the end it turned out okay, I want to come out with a solid and strong idea for the arrangement and as we have the deadlines coming, I'm pretty sure it won't be achieved by then. I did kind of enjoy playing around the wood - but other than creating bold typographic elements, it doesn't interest me that much.
But I'm glad I worked through the process to come to this realisation.
